When Paul Massey first walked the grounds of The Vale, he didn’t see a shuttered, tired holiday park. He saw potential. The stream still ran softly through the site, birds moved through the trees as if nothing had changed and the narrow valley caught the light in a way that made the whole place feel calm. To Paul, it wasn’t just a piece of land, it was a blank canvas.
That blank canvas would become Ohana Mua: a UK staycation brand built on three uncompromising principles, family first, energy positive and purpose led from day one. Paul wasn’t just starting another holiday destination, alongside his executive team, including Karl and Gemma. He was quietly starting a movement.
Paul: “So I think for me, it was just a case of, I take the skills that I’ve learned….and really do something that’s going to create meaningful memories for people. So I think that for me, was the spark.”
You can listen to the full story from Paul, Gemma, and Karl in our latest episode below:
Breaking Away from the Industry Playbook
From the very beginning, Ohana Mua was designed to defy the usual holiday park model. Most parks follow a familiar rhythm: seasonal price hikes, incremental lodge upgrades, and a guest experience that ticks boxes but rarely surprises. Ohana Mua chose a different path.
Instead of squeezing revenue from peak-season demand, the team abolished dynamic pricing entirely. Families booking a school-holiday stay pay the same transparent rate as someone visiting in spring.
Paul: “We do that by taking the pain first. So if you come and stay with Ohana Mua in summer, you will be paying less than what you’ve been paying for an equivalent quality, equivalent standard, elsewhere… What we want to do is over time is really build that trust through transparent and fair pricing.”
This approach not only builds trust with guests but also challenges the rest of the industry to think differently.
Creating Invisible Comfort for Guests
The guest experience at The Vale is designed to feel effortless, natural, and restorative. Rather than showing off technology or sustainability, the lodges whisper comfort.
Outdoor copper baths and showers encourage wellness rituals without the excess of a hot tub. Streamside decks turn white noise apps into the real thing. Even the air feels different, thanks to careful lodge design and heat recovery systems.
Gemma: “I guess it’s a bit like an invisible experience or an invisible comfort because, as a guest, you’re not going to sit back and admire the solar panels or, want to go and have a look at our battery systems or infrared heating units. You’ll feel the difference, whether that’s in the air quality, the temperature balance and the quiet efficiency of the site, which has been really intentional.”
Behind the scenes, The Vale is already generating enough energy to power homes. Solar and battery systems silently store energy, creating resilience for the future. For the team, sustainability isn’t a marketing buzzword, it’s the foundation.
Paul: “We didn’t want it to be a baseless claim. So by saying energy positive, it was something that you could measure, you could evidence… It’s something that makes it real and it’s not a buzzword and it’s something that you can really get behind.”
Technology as the Silent Enabler
Delivering such a guest-first experience with a lean team requires precision behind the scenes. Supporting that journey, EliteParks. The platform quietly connects bookings, housekeeping, maintenance, ANPR entry and even retail, freeing the on-site team to focus on people, not paperwork.
Karl: “We want the tech to be invisible, working quietly in the background so the team can focus on the moments that matter for our guests.”
This operational approach ensures that every moving part works in harmony, making the guest experience feel effortless.
Looking Ahead: A Movement in the Making
The Vale is only the first chapter of Ohana Mua’s ten-year plan. The team is already exploring new destinations across the UK and carefully planning how to scale without losing the intimacy and purpose that define their brand.
For supporters, there’s even a chance to join the journey. A CrowdCube raise will soon invite guests and fans to literally invest in the future of UK staycations.
At Elite Dynamics, we’re proud to support this movement. Our role is to keep the operational engine smooth and scalable, so that innovators like Paul, Gemma, and Karl can focus on creating holidays that feel human, purposeful and unforgettable.
As Ohana Mua grows, it’s not just reshaping the guest experience, it’s challenging an entire industry to ask bigger questions.
If you were standing at The Vale today, watching guests sit by the stream or sinking into an outdoor copper bath, one thing would be clear: this isn’t just a park reopening. It’s a new chapter for UK staycations and we’re proud to be part of the story.
